Volkswagen Donates Advertising to America SCORES Nonprofit Organization

During the FIFA Women's World Cup, Volkswagen donated a portion of its advertising time to produce a 30-second commercial for America SCORES - a national nonprofit organization that benefits students in low-income communities by offering after-school activities. Having a commercial air during the Women's World Cup offered excellent exposure for this VW-supported organization.

America SCORES serves elementary and middle-school students in 12 major cities across the country: Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Cleveland, St. Louis, Portland, Milwaukee, Seattle, Washington DC, and Vancouver. The nonprofit organization is currently partnering with 311 public schools and helping more than 13,000 under-privileged students in the process. The after-school programs allow students to play in soccer leagues, craft and perform poetry and participate in service projects.

The approach of Volkswagen's Drive Bigger campaign mixed the overall purpose of the automotive brand with the spirit of the efforts made by America SCORES. The 30-second spot aired for the first time on Wednesday, June 19, and featured Charity Blackwell - America SCORES Director of Creative Arts - who recited an original poem. The goal of the donated commercial time was to showcase the story behind America SCORES and how it actively reaches out to foster character and confidence in underserved individuals - a mission fully supported by Volkswagen.
